Born in São Paulo, Rodrigo Ferreira lives in Paris, where he works with Christiane Patard, after having obtained his prize in 2007 at the Centre de formation pour jeunes chanteurs created by Laurence Equilbey (CRR of Paris). He has performed under the direction of conductors such as René Jacobs, Gustav Leonhardt, Kazuchi Ono, George-Elie Octors; he regularly collaborates with the Ensembles Sagittarius (dir. Michel Laplénie), Musicatreize (Roland Hayrabedian), Le Balcon (Maxime Pascal), and the Dance-Theatre company Le Théâtre Décomposé (Éric Durand), and in 2010 he founds the Actus Tragicus ensemble.
He plays the roles of Secrecy, Mopsa and Summer in Purcell’s Fairy Queen (Festival du Périgord Noir), Ritornello in Florian Gassmann’s Opera Seria (Printemps des Arts, dir. Raphaël Pichon), Judas in Schütz’s Matthäus-Passion (Folle Journée de Nantes); he interprets the Stabat Mater of Sances (Ensemble Desmarest dir. Ronan Khalil), Pergolesi (dir. Robert Ferrer, Valencia, Spain), Vivaldi (at the invitation of Pierre Bergé, during the funeral of Yves Saint Laurent); Hail Bright Cecilia by Purcell; Magnificat (Festival de la Chaise-Dieu) and Cantatas by Bach; Passions by Schütz, Keiser and Bach, and is particularly fond of early music for one voice: Masses and Motets by Bouzignac, Desprez, Machaut and Charpentier; Musikalische Exequien, Sieben Worte Jesum Christi am Kreuz and Cantiones Sacrae by Schütz; Israelis Brünnlein by Schein; Books VII and VIII of the Madrigals by Monteverdi; La Barca di Venezia per Padova (Bordeaux Opera).
In the contemporary repertoire, he participated in the creation of various operas: Thanks to my Eyes by Oscar Bianchi (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, dir. Franck Ollu, m.s: Joël Pommerat); La Métamorphose by Michaël Lévinas after Kafka (Opéra de Lille, m. s: Stanislas Nordey); Avenida de los Incas 3518 by Fernando Fiszbein (dir. Pierre Strauch, m.s: Agnès Jaoui); Antii Puuhaara by Tapio Tuomela (m.s: Damien Caille-Perret and Aurélie Hubeau);
Villa des Morts by Aurélien Dumont (m.s: Éric Durand); as well as Sin Nombres by Antonio Juan-Marcos (dir. Pierre Roullier), Dies Irae, Séquence-Stupeur by Michaël Lévinas and Jean-Luc Nancy and Les Quatre Chants d’Ilion by Arthur Lavandier.
He is preparing for 2013 the creation of the electro-multimedia opera HY High Infidelity®, The Opera of 21st Century (production: Yann Ulrich), which will tour the world.
Rodrigo Ferreira performs regularly in chamber music recitals with pianist Alphonse Cemin, playing Fauré, Ravel, Poulenc, Debussy, Schumann, Schubert, Strauss, Mahler, Falla, Montsalvatge. Together they premiered Thomas Adès’ cycle The Lover in the Winter in France. They will be in recital next season at the Lille Opera as part of the Wednesday Concerts. Finally, with the Orchestre Symphonique l’Ensemble Parisien (dir. Alexis Roy) he has performed in concert the lyrical repertoire: Farnace in Mozart’s Mitridate, Arsace in Semiramide and Tancredi by Rossini (Gala for Sidaction, UNESCO); and under the direction of Laurence Equilbey.
