A journey through Europe with songs based on texts by 20th-century French poets, mixed with songs from Greek, Czech and Sicilian folklore.
The focus is on Poulenc’s ‘Sept Chansons’, composed to poems by Paul Éluard (‘La Vie immédiate’ Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7) and Guillaume Apollinaire (‘Alcools’ Nos. 1 and 6), the cornerstone of his choral music that opens the series of all his future choral works. Alongside them, we offer a rediscovery of Bohuslav Martinů’s ‘5 Czech Madrigals’.
We then enter the 21st century marked, among others, by composers such as Luciano Berio who, through works such as his Folksongs, ratifies the union of popular cultures and learned music that so preoccupied composers of the last century. Alongside his Sicilian love song ‘E si Fussi Pisci’, Attacca will create a suite of four songs commissioned from Greek composer Alexandros Markeas, based on traditional Mediterranean songs.
The Petits Violons des Calanques will play the first part of this concert “d’ici et d’ailleurs”, accompanied by their teachers, Joël Chouquet and Camille Forray. These 30 children from l’école des Calanques and le collège du Roy d’Espagne have been learning to play the violin since 2016, thanks to a project initiated by the CIQ les Hauts de Mazargues la Cayolle and led by C Barré.
