In Memoriam Escher (1)

composer

genre :

Instrumental

duration :

4 minutes

year :

2012

creation(s) :

April 13th 2012 | Weimarer Frühjahrstage für Zeitgenössiche Musik, Weimar, Germany

Intention :

This piece is part of a cycle inspired by the Dutch engraver and illusionist draftsman M.C. Escher.

Its subtitle is “Multiplicity”.

After a plaintive prelude, the piece attempts to give the illusion of three flutes playing simultaneously (hence the subtitle “Multiplicity”). It also ends with the illusion of an echo produced by the flute itself (without recourse to electroacoustics).
